Salt Pond Homeowners Association

Welcome to the SPHA Web Site

Nestled among the natural beauty of wetlands and ponds and just 3/4ths of a mile from the beach, the Salt Pond Community overlooks a mid-length, executive 18-hole golf course, and has a community recreational center, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a children's play area, and many other amenities.  The community consists of single family homes and town homes; many residents are full time while others maintain seasonal homes.  Salt Pond is located near Bethany Beach, Delaware, just 15 minutes north of the Delaware and Maryland state borders.  Bethany Beach is about midway between the resort communities of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware to the north and Ocean City, Maryland to the south.
While visiting our site, please take a moment to sign our guestbook and leave a comment or suggestion. We are always eager to hear how our community is perceived by its owners and visitors.

I am sure you have witnessed first-hand our Salt Pond has been innundated with mosquitoes this season.
This is a result of the very mild winter we had and pockets of standing water around us.

Michael Headman and the Ponds & Wetlands Committee called Mosquito Control
who went to each pond, drainage ditch, and into some backyards looking for swarming mosquitos.
They sprayed the infected areas.

However, the problem now is the "flood water" that came after their visit.
Our area received about 9" of rain resulting in our ponds overflowing,
stressing our drainage system and creating new breeding puddles/spots
throughout the community and the wetlands.
Breeding sites have multiplied and the new sites do not have fish eating the larvae.

Mosquito Control was called again
and they returned to "fog" our area to help curtail the problem.
We were also informed the type of mosquito we are encountering now is the Asian Tiger which swarms even during the day.
These pesky pests are very difficult to control.
Please reference the two resources below for more information.

Please remember, yard waste can no longer be put with your normal household refuse.
Nor can it be put with your normal recycling materials.

Yard waste must be in paper biodegradable bags which can be purchased at places like Lowes, Home Depot, Sams Club, and local hardware and grocery stores. Small limbs and branches may be tied up in bundles for pickup. It is also acceptable to store in containers which will be emptied. Please do not put your waste out at the curb until the night before pickup.

The 2014 Recycling/Yard Waste Calendar is now available!

Fishing in the Salt Pond

Fishing is permitted in Salt Pond for residents, guests, and renters from dawn to dusk.

However, fishing in any pond from a bank on the Salt Pond Golf Course may not be done during normal golfing hours (7 AM to dusk) when there are golfers on the course. Ponds on common grounds may be fished in anytime.

You are likely to catch a bass, catfish, perch, carp or a blue crab. If you catch a Mosquito Fish, it is a mandatory "Catch & Release." Of course, we prefer you "Catch & Release" all fish caught in our ponds.

SPHA Official Business
Email Program

The State of Delaware requires the SPHA to have a signed document granting permission to send official business correspondence to homeowners via email. While this permission was not required in the past to send items such as updates and newsletters, it is now mandatory for us to begin sending "official" documents. This kind of correspondence is mainly for those items specified in our By-laws such as Annual Meeting Notices, Proxy information, etc.

Please consider signing up for this program. Not only will you help your SPHA to save money on postage, but you will help save a few trees in the process!.
